A native of Charlestown and alum of URI, Eric Lute’s love for the waters of Narragansett Bay are reflected in his work. From the colorful and various sea shells to the dory’s and sailboats and seascapes he paints. Most widely known as an actor on primetime television in such leading roles as Del Cassidy on Caroline in the City, Tom Duran on Frasier and Jake Carlson – father to the Olsen twins on So Little Time and most recently opposite fellow Rhode Islander, Viola Davis in How To Get Away With Murder. Eric’s true love and passion has always been painting. Son of well-known marine artist, John D. Lutes, Eric was raised in an art-centric home and actually apprenticed under his father who taught him much of his technique. Eric has his own distinctive style but you can see his father’s influence in his work. Eric is a senior fellow of the Coastal Institute where many of his pieces can be seen. You can also find his work hanging at the Matunuck Oyster Bar, Inspire Medical Spa and is also proud to have his work at the Charlestown Art Gallery in Charlestown, RI. Reproductions of Eric’s work can be found in The Home Goods store, TJ Maxx and Marshalls. Eric is thrilled to return to Rhode Island to show his work at the Courthouse Center for the Arts and believes strongly in the importance of all forms of art in our culture and is delighted to be shown in a state that is beaming with so many talented artist, actors and musicians.
