Two-time Grammy® award winner Rita Coolidge is bringing her incredible voice to the CCA on June 25 for a special show that is sure to be a sell-out. Rita has had a long career in music. As an A-list backup, Joe Cocker hired her for his Mad Dogs and Englishmen tour. Rita co-wrote the smash hit Carpenters song ″Superstar.″ She has toured and recorded with Eric Clapton, Jimi Hendrix, Bob Dylan, Leon Russell and Stephen Stills. In 1971, Herb Alpert signed her to A&M Records, and Rita released more than a dozen albums in the years that followed, including the multi-platinum “Anytime… Anywhere.” Rita released classic singles like ″We’re All Alone,″ ″Higher And Higher″ and ″The Way You Do The Things You Do.″ She’s performed with friends like George Harrison, Roger Waters, Robbie Robertson and Jimmy Buffett. In 1973, Rita married singer/songwriter/actor Kris Kristofferson. During their eight-year union the pair teamed up for a number of hits and was twice named Country Duo of the Year. Her ″Love Came For Me″ appeared on the soundtrack of the Tom Hanks movie “Splash,” and her song ″All Time High″ was the theme song in the James Bond thriller “Octopussy.” Her song ″Heart Don’t Fail Me Now″ with Lee Greenwood was used as a theme for the CBS daytime drama As The World Turns.
Rita has just published a Harper Collins autobiography called “Delta Lady,” which traces her roots from small town Tennessee to music legend.
The opening act of this show is internationally touring American Roots singer/songwriter Grant Maloy Smith.
