Come join The Courthouse for a night of art and community with a few of South County’s local artists. There will be a full bar as well as wonderful appetizers for all who attend. The event starts at 6pm and will go till 8:30pm and free to all, so come by for the whole time or just a little. This month our walls will be featuring the art of four different artist, of different mediums and style which is bound to keep everyone interested. We will feature works of Laurie Rusk, Sonja Lemoi, Lisle Ann Jackson, and Harold Moore.

Artist Laurie Rusk creates evocative mixed media paintings in a unique fashion that allows her to birth art from art. Using oils and acrylics, Rusk will often begin a piece only to divine a greater, more resonate expression underneath. Deconstructing an original painting in a seemingly stream of consciousness manner allows Rusk to explore a deeper emotional depth. Her canvas becomes a new canvas as she peels away the layers. In an extraordinary cathartic exploration into beauty and truth. Rusk is self taught and her work has been shown multiple galleries in Rhode Island, where she lives. Fly on the wall. Intimate artist. Storyteller. These are just some of the ways photographer Sonja Lemoi has been described. On busy streets, carnival midways, live concert performances, her lens uncovers the details at the essence of her subjects. Emotion infuses every frame of her web and print work, connecting the subject and viewer in unspoken harmony. As if the scenes have been waiting for her camera to give them life.
Working alone with natural lighting, Lemoi captures nuances that might otherwise go unseen. She’s nimble and unobtrusive — somewhat of a contortionist — making her way from shot toshot while putting her subjects at ease. And while her work brings out the honesty of every scene, Lemoi can also stage a shot with natural ease and grace.

Lisle Ann Jackson is a retired Mental Health Counselor. She now has the time to indulge her passion for creating images. She considers herself a “Painterly Photographer” since she uses her photographic device (currently a cell phone) instead of a brush to create the picture she desires.
Lisle Ann believes her foremost artistic gift is her ability to see and capture images in a fairly unique way. She has often been told she has “a good eye”. Lisle Ann delights in creating works that make the viewer question: “What is that exactly?”.
Being a bit of a purist, Lisle Ann rarely changes the image as captured. She will on occasion crop or slightly enhance the color. Flowers, the sea and wood are some of her favorite subjects. She has a love for faces and sees them everywhere, especially in nature and wood. Lisle Ann credits her involvement with the Artist Cooperative Gallery of Westerly with her recent growth as an artist. She also has a studio in the Velvet Mill in North Stonington, CT, displays her works at Par 4 Restaurant in Groton, CT and in her home.

A Richmond, Rhode Island native, Harold Moore’s history as an artist dates to his undergraduate days at the university of Rhode island, class of 1960. Moore continues refining his craft, studying at the University of Hartford’s Art school under Reynard Milicci and Laura Eden. Realism and impressionism dominate his artistic style expressed in many of his Rhode Island and Connecticut landscape paintings. World renowned sculpture, Lloyd Glasson Lauded Moore’s oil paintings as “primitive”. He has been showcased at many galleries and art shows including the old Lyme Art Gallery, Stony creek Gallery and the West Hartford Art League, where he is a member. A juried artist, Moore’s paintings are in private collections across new England, New York, and California.
